Up Close and Personal Tour with Chris Brown

    December 19, 2007

My best friend and I went to the Up Close and Personal tour at Madison Square Garden last Friday. Anyone who knows me knows that I’m a Chris Brown fan, so needless to say I was excited. Contrary to the title of tour we weren’t so up close and personal, but we had a good time nonetheless. We thought we would be the oldest people in the audience, which featured artists like Bow Wow and Chris Brown, but it’s quite obvious that their fan base has grown up just like these superstars. Don’t get it twisted; there were plenty of tweens in the building, acting like they were grown! The tour opened up with Sean Kingston, Soulja Boy and the Shop Boys all who had big hits this year. Mr. Ay Bay Bay aka Hurricane Chris made a guest appearance during Soulja Boy’s set. Bow Wow’s entrance was elaborate with a video clip that took place on a private jet. A miniature replica of a jet landed on stage with the star inside. He performed his newest songs and even hits made when he still had the Lil’ in front of his name. Bow brought guests Swizz Beatz, Fabolous and of course Omarion. The two performed their new single “Girlfriend” off their new album Face Off. Next up was R&B sweetheart, Chris Brown who had a big year, with his new album Exclusive which released in November.  Brown never disappoints his audience with his elaborate dance moves and stage set. The artists and his dancers were lowered to the stage Mission Impossible style. The highlights of his performance included when Brown broke into some 80s b-boy moves bringing out rap legend, LL Cool J to perform “Radio”. The best performance of the night was Brown’s rendition of Rihanna’s Umbrella, in which he appears on the remix. Rihanna appeared on a hologram singing her verse as Chris danced accompanied with an umbrella. The song ended with pyrotechnics raining down just like in the video. The set changed again, to a school scene as the DJ played the “Saved by the Bell” theme song. Brown then segued into his hit song featuring the holo-T-Pain, “Kiss Kiss”, marking the end of the concert. Overall, neither me or my friend were disappointed, the concert was entertaining from start to finish and is clear that both Chris Brown and Bow Wow will continue to bring us hits for years to come.
