Courtesy of your girl Nita, of course ;-).

SOB’s was a mad house tonight, packed with fans, industry insiders and more, all wanting to get their first hand account of the newest kid on the block. Peter Rosenberg hosted the show, MC Lyte, DJ Class and Bun B made appearances. Talib Kweli, Kanye West, Keyshia Cole, Miss Info, DJ Envy and more looked on as ‘Drizzy’ performed. Hailing from Toronto, Canada, Drake has been making a big splash in the underground scene, initially getting his start on popular teeny bopper tv show Degrassi. Now all grown up and under Lil Wayne’s wing Drake, hate him or love him, is definitely the next big thing.

NOTORIOUS x Brooklyn Academy of Music Premiere

“In the words of the Notorious B.I.G, spread love, it’s the Brooklyn WAY”- Borough President Marty Markowitz as he presented the Wallace family with a official citation in the honor of Christoper ‘Notorious B.I.G.’ Wallace.

That statementĀ  summed up the entire night as hundreds of Biggie Smalls fans, supporters and friends, celebrated his life at the NOTORIOUS premiere. The cast of the biopic as well as Biggie’s family and friends, joined the public and media alike for the Brooklyn screening of the movie. Eleven years after his tragic murder , the movie will forever immortalize the life of Brooklyn’s greatest rapper, The Notorious B.I.G. Everyone involved with the project shared personal experiences with the Biggie, whether it was directly or through the contact of his family and neighborhood friends. Creating the film was a labor of love, Jamal “Gravy” Woodard, had to up his weight to 340 lbs, for his role as “Big Poppa”. Biggie’s mother, Voletta Wallace, discovered a lot of disappointing things about her late son, “If he were here today, I would kick him!” she laughed. She also reached out to Lil Kim, who had spoken out about the negative portrayal of herĀ  in the film. Ms. Wallace called “Ms. Jones” a wonderful woman, and in an Essence magazine interview, expressed dismay of her son’s treatment toward Lil Kim.
HOT 97 and Mister Cee were of course on sight at the esteemed Brooklyn Academy of Music, as well as celebs and figures like the Rev. Jesse Jackson and rapper Foxy Brown. NOTORIOUS is in movies everywhere Friday, January 16th, don’t miss it!

I went to see the advanced screening of this movie on Tuesday and I’ve been dying to spill since then. I attended the only advanced screening in NYC, (almost didn’t get in), and braced myself. I expected a bunch of screaming teenaged stans, and there were a couple. But mostly it was filled with industry people, writers, reviewers, etc. who looked like they rather be anywhere else but a Twilight screening…
The actual movie did not disappoint. For those of you who have been living under a rock, Twilight is a fantasy saga by Stephenie Meyers, which have caused a frenzy unseen since the Harry Potter series. The books center around the strained love between Bella Swan, an introspective girl who moves from Phoenix to live with her dad, and Edward Cullen, a vampire living in the raining town of Forks, Washington. The storyline seems superficial, but the love between the two is extremely complex and thoughtful, which explains why the books are favorites amongst all age groups. The movie cut out some details, which is to be expected but to a person new to Twilight, the story was easy to follow. I was a little frustrated with Jasper Cullen’s character. Brother to Edward, this vampire’s unique “power” is the ability to diffuse tense situations and atmospheres with his mind. Instead Jasper was betrayed as a blood-thirsty and slightly crazed vampire, who was not yet matured enough to handle his human cravings…Other than that the setting of the movie is beautiful and incredibly lush, yet extremely mysterious and foreboding, exactly how Meyers described it.

    Catch Twilight, today in theaters!
